Homework:

1) Mark Twain, whose  real name was Samuel L.Clemens, is the author of the classic American novel entitled Huckleberry Finn and he lived in Hartford for several years.

2) Mark Twain's elaborate and elegant house at Nook Farm area in Farmington Avenue is found near the home of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin.

3) In Mark Twain's youth, he piloted a steamboat that is why his house, with the windows and the balcony that overlooks a large side porch, reminds people of a steamboat.

4) Mark Twain was one of the first three people in Hartford who owned a telephone, a gadget which was used commercially in nearby New Haven,  but he never really liked this newfangled gadget since there was practically no one to talk to.

5)Mark Twain loved industrial inventions but he lost a fortune in investing in the Paige typesetter which was developed at the same time as the simpler and less expensive Linotype machine.

6)Mark Twain never felt the same about his house after his beloved daughter, Susy, died at home of spinal meningitis, so he left and returned only once for the funeral of his friend, Charles Dudley Warner.
